Let’s Talk Wine: Paso Robles & the Santa Ynez Valley

Hi there!

When you think of California’s wine scene, Napa and Sonoma are probably the first spots to come to mind. Don’t get me wrong – I love them both. But today, I wanted to talk about two other wine-centric gems in the Golden State: Paso Robles and the Santa Ynez Valley.

If you want to plan a winery weekend getaway, here’s my mini guides to each of these destinations.

Santa Ynez Valley

A 45-minute drive from Santa Barbara, the Santa Ynez Valley is home to charming small towns (including Los Olivos and Solvang) and more than 120 wineries!

Vineyards Worth Visiting:

I recommend booking a guided Santa Ynez Valley vineyard tour! Note that many wineries in the area require reservations. If you explore without a tour, be sure to make all necessary bookings in advance!

Where to Stay:

Things to do in the Santa Ynez Valley (Beyond Drinking Wine!):

Paso Robles

This beautiful Central Coast destination (which is about a 30-minute drive from San Luis Obispo) has a cute historic town and more than 200 wineries.

Vineyards Worth Visiting:

I recommend booking a vineyard tour so that you don’t have to worry about driving! Ubers/Lyfts can be harder to get, as cell service is spotty by the vineyards. If you go on your own, note that many wineries require reservations.

Where to Stay:

Things to do in Paso Robles (Beyond Drinking Wine!):

  • Shop and dine in Paso’s picturesque small downtown
  • Relax at Franklin Hot Springs
  • Enjoy the immersive outdoor light show at Light at Sensorio
  • Dine and drink at Tin City and Paso Market Walk

Hi there! A few weekends ago, I finally visited a coastal destination that has been on my bucket list for quite some time…Point Reyes! While we ran into a bit of rain, it was a perfect, nature-filled long weekend. Some highlights included: Taking the 313 steps down to the picture-perfect Point Reyes Lighthouse Enjoying the view from the South Beach Overlook (one of the most iconic viewpoints in Point Reyes!) Hiking the easy Chimney Rock Trail Strolling through the Cypress Tree Tunnel Seeing...

Happy New Year! I started the year off with a weekend getaway to the Santa Ynez Valley, a wine region that’s about a 45-minute drive from Santa Barbara. I’ve done quite a few day trips to the area, so it was nice to enjoy a more slow-paced visit. I stayed at a very cute, incredibly peaceful hotel just outside of Solvang. This property was once a motor lodge from the 1950s. It was purchased in 2019 by a company known for reviving historic hotel properties, and was renovated into a charming...

Hi there! A couple weeks ago, I took a weekend getaway to Palm Desert and Palm Springs. I stayed at a very beautifully designed and very pink boutique hotel in Palm Desert. This spot has been on my bucket list for years now, and thankfully, it lived up to my expectations! I’ve been to the area many times, so the weekend was spent enjoying some classic spots and activities that I love. This includes doing a drive-by mid-century modern architectural tour through the Indian Canyons neighborhood...
